Hassan El-Tayyab is an author, songwriter, and FCNL’s legislative director for Middle East policy. He leads efforts to end U.S. military involvement in Yemen, advocate for Palestinian human rights, and promote diplomacy with Iran. A recipient of Arab America Foundation’s 2022 “40 under 40” award, Hassan’s policy work has made a significant impact on Capitol Hill. Previously, he co-directed Just Foreign Policy, advancing Congressional war authority and human rights in the Middle East and Latin America. His passion for diplomacy stems from his commitment to the safety of families in Jordan, Palestine, and Yemen, and to fostering global peace. Hassan’s insights have been featured in outlets like CNN, BBC, Politico, and The Intercept, and he frequently lectures at universities nationwide. |
Myriam Sabbaghi - National Organizing Director, National Iranian American Council
Myriam Sabbaghi is the National Organizing Director at the National Iranian American Council (NIAC). Since joining NIAC in 2021, she has strengthened grassroots leadership, multi-ethnic coalitions, and external relations, achieving key victories like defeating alien land laws in the NDAA and Texas. A dedicated organizer, Myriam is committed to advancing gender, racial, economic, and social justice. Previously, she organized successful union campaigns, including the largest strike in the University of Chicago’s history, and worked as a Higher Education Organizer for the American Federation of Teachers. Myriam holds a B.A. from the University of Washington, where she triple-majored in Political Science, Law, and Near Eastern Studies, and an M.A. in Divinity with a focus on classical Persian literature from the University of Chicago. Fluent in six languages, Myriam enjoys poetry, cooking, and traveling. |
John Ramming Chappell - Advisor, US Advocacy, Center for Civilians in Conflict
John Ramming Chappell is an Advisor on legal and policy issues in CIVIC’s US Program, focusing on civilian protection in conflict, arms sales, and security assistance. His commentary has been featured in outlets such as The New York Times, CNN, and NPR. Previously, John worked at think tanks and foreign policy organizations and served as a political organizer in Mississippi, leading initiatives on voting rights and racial justice. He holds a Juris Doctor and Master of Science in Foreign Service from Georgetown University and a BA in International Studies from the University of Mississippi. A recognized expert by the Forum on the Arms Trade, John is also a member of the District of Columbia Bar. |
