About our guests:
Dr. Aisha Jumaan, MPH, PhD, Founder and President of Yemen Relief and Reconstruction Foundation
With over 30 years of experience in public health, including viral vaccine preventable diseases, cervical and breast cancer research, maternal and child health, and primary health care, Dr. Aisha Jumaan brings a wealth of knowledge to the discussion on Yemen. Aisha worked in her native home, Yemen, with UNFPA and UNDP. She also participated in health-related program development, evaluation, and training activities for Peace Corps. She was an Assistant Professor on the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Sana’a University, and consulted on research projects for various ministries, USAID, Save the Children, and Dutch Embassy. She will share insights from her recent trip to Yemen and shed light on the humanitarian challenges faced by the Yemeni population |
Arwa Mokdad, Peace Advocate with the Yemen Relief and Reconstruction Foundation
Arwa Mokdad, a Peace Advocate at the Yemen Relief and Reconstruction Foundation, supports aid programs in Yemen and engages in U.S. policy initiatives to end support for the war. With extensive experience in the MENA region, including work in Oman, refugee camps in Lebanon, and as a Yemen researcher at the International Center for Dialogue Initiatives, she brings a rich background in conflict analysis. Currently pursuing an MPhil at the University of Oxford, her research focuses on conflict mediation within Yemen, encompassing local, regional, and international peace-building efforts. Growing up between the U.S. and Middle East, Arwa is interested in the role of foreign actors within the region as well as local activism and perceptions of intervention. |
Neda Saleh, Coordinator of Action Corps
Neda is a Yemeni-born peace activist and political science student at the University of California, Berkeley. She founded the youth organization, Hands Off Yemen which brought together hundreds of people in the Bay Area, California to take action for Yemen. Neda has taken on leadership roles, organizing rallies, securing meetings with influential members of Congress, and organizing national coalition meetings. Notably, she spearheaded a coalition consisting of U.S. peace, international development, and women's organizations, aiming to end U.S. complicity in Yemen's crisis. Despite balancing her responsibilities as a student and activist, her primary advocacy goal is to contribute to achieving peace and stability in Yemen. |
